5 Makeup Products Under $5!

Hey everyone! Makeup is my happy word, so when I see great products under $5.00 you know I’m going to try it out! The prices will vary depending on the store. The same product can be more or less based on your location as well. For drugstore brands I think these products give the high end brands a run for their money. If you love a good deal and great makeup keep reading for some goodies!

Here are five makeup products under $5 that I love! Also each product title is linked so feel free to check them out.

1.Wet n Wild Velvet Matte Lip Color — $3.49

I had purchased this lip color because it was on sale at Walgreens. I thought hey why not? I love me a sale! I didn’t expect to love this product at all! It is matte, super lightweight and comfortable as the product claims. Goes on your lips very smoothly. I bought the colors Hickory Smoked which is a cool toned red and Lie Lack which is a pastel purple. I will say it is not long lasting but it does leave a very natural stain on your lips. 10/10 for me!

2. Wet n Wild MegaGlo Contouring Palette — $4.99

This was my first bronzer/contour powder and I have used it so many times since I bought it. About two years and still I haven’t hit pan! The powder itself is very finely milled and smooth. The one side is for contour and the other half is a setting powder which has a slight yellow undertone. Very great quality for the price. The shade I have is Caramel Toffee.

3. Rimmel Stay Matte Powder — $3.99

Back when I first started using makeup, I would use this powder religiously on my oily teenage skin. True to its name, the matte powder will take away all the unwanted shine. I recommend this powder for anyone looking to set their makeup for a flawless finish.

4. L.A. Girl Pro Conceal HD Concealer — $4.99

This concealer is a cult favorite in the beauty community. The concealer is very full coverage and thick enough to hid your dark circles and more. I have the shade medium beige. There are color correctors as well in the range. I don’t use this often as I like a more natural concealer now. I recommend to start with less to avoid creasing due to the thick consistency.

5. Wet n Wild Highlighting Powder  — $4.99

For a drugstore brand, this highlighter is very pigmented. I love the colors and the blinding highlighter effect is so there! But if you don’t want it that strong, it is buildable so start with a little!  Honestly, when I compare it to my Becca highlighter, the wet n wild one is a strong competitor.

I hope you enjoyed! Let me know if you have tried any of these products or what your favorite under $5 products are?

Thank you for reading and until next time don’t forget to stay Chic Neat and Sweet!

Create a Morning Ritual for a Healthy Mind, Body, and Soul

How many of us actually follow a morning routine? I think for Generation X and Z, we have a hustle mindset and love being busy. Do you agree?

In recent years though, and especially with being in lockdown/quarantine, many of us have started to adopt a slower way of living.

It is really refreshing and I feel so much healthier because I have started to nourish my body with healthy foods. I have incorporated daily meditation for my mind. Lastly, I have begun listening to myself, my soul.

I find myself wasting my precious time in the morning on my phone too often. Quite frankly, routines have never been easy to follow. Until now.

I have actually started to enjoy my morning ritual. I no longer feel drained or foggy in the morning and it is all because of a ritual that feeds my mind, body, and soul.

Why should you follow a morning ritual?

When you take care of you, everything else works itself out. You can’t tend to others, if you don’t tend to yourself first. Just like you can’t save others lives unless you first put on your oxygen mask.

A ritual doesn’t have to be complicated as you will see in the post. It really takes a small amount of your time in the morning to see the benefits of your ritual.

Tips

*Sleep around the same time consistently. This is going to help you feel refreshed and not groggy.

*Keep your phone away in another room preferably. Out of sight, out of mind. This way you won’t spend time on your phone.

*Keep curtains open to let sunshine in the morning. This has been so helpful for me to wake up earlier naturally without an alarm clock. Let the light wake you up!

My ritual

My morning ritual takes about 15 to 20 mins. I know that as a student I have more time now as school as ended.

  1. Wash my face with water
  2. Drink one glass of hot water
  3. Make chai
  4. Sit outside in the sunshine while drinking chai
  5. 5 minute morning yoga to stretch out body and get out of sleepy mode and ready to start the day
  6. Set 3 achievable goals for the day

Mind + Body + Soul = Your Morning Ritual

To make a ritual that is right for you and your lifestyle is key. It should feel natural and not forced. Remember that the time you make for yourself in the morning, enables you to carry out your responsibilities.

Ideas for your morning ritual

Mind

  • Meditate for 5-10 minutes
  • Journal thoughts, dreams, worries
  • Choose an intention for your day (examples: clam, productivity, focus)
  • Write down 3 realistic/achievable goals for the day
  • Reflect on the pervious day
  • Listen to music to uplift you
  • Gratitude list

Body

  • Yoga
  • Quick stretches
  • Eat fruits for breakfast
  • Drink hot water to rehydrate
  • Skincare routine
  • Sit outside in the sunshine for Vitamin D
  • Take a brisk walk without your phone

Soul

When I say soul, I mean your inner self. The person you are when no one is around. If we constantly keep ignoring or denying our gut feelings, your soul is what gets affected. Along the lines of the saying “Be yourself”, you can incorporate small activities that YOU want to do. What feels right for you? Most often what feels right for others in their morning rituals is not going to always feel right for you.

For example, I love having my morning cup of chai. But “experts” would say that a filling breakfast is the best thing for a successful day. I listen to myself and act accordingly. I drink chai because it is what I want and I still have an amazing day. So for your soul, do one thing that feels right for you!

I hope you enjoyed reading! Tell me what you do in the mornings? Is it easy for you to follow a routine?

There will be change

This week has been difficult for everyone. A rollercoaster of emotions are going through us all. I am disgusted by the society we live in. Racial inequality is sickening and we can’t have another black persons life be taken at the hands of indifferent people. All the black lives lost will never be forgotten. As an individual, we can protest, donate, and share our voices loud and clear. The world can become a better place only if we all come together to make it happen. The year is 2020, wake up! We need to take action before another black persons innocent life is lost.

Please educate yourself and others in your community. Please don’t stay silent. Let’s end this injustice together.

Quick No Foundation Glowy Summer Makeup

Hey all!

This makeup look is the best for those days when we want to look fresh and put together without the effort! I have a few key products that makes the look glowy all without any foundation.

Step 1: Clean skin

Wash your face with a cleanser and then exfoliate. Then moisturize to prevent any dry skin. This is important to ensure the makeup goes on smoothly and that your skin is prepped.

Step 2: Tinted moisturizer

The goal is to make our skin look like we have no makeup on. That’s why using a tinted moisturizer gives the skin a little bit of coverage while not looking heavy like a foundation.

If you do not have a tinted moisturizer, you could use BB cream or mix moisturizer/lotion with foundation to create a tinted moisturizer.

Step 3: Bronzer and cream blush

Summer makeup looks have to have bronzer!! It totally warms up the skin. I use Kylie cosmetics bronzer in the shade Almond.

For this look, a shimmery pink blush or a cream blush is what helps to keep the look glowy. Bare Minerals Bounce and Blur in Mauve Sunshine or Milk Makeup Lip and Cheek in the shade “Werk” are great blushes.

Step 4: Highlighter

Dewy skin with highlighter and coconut oil

Mix any oil such as coconut oil and shimmery eyeshadow for highlighter. Another trick I do is combine an oil and a pressed highlight to make a liquid highlight. The oil makes it look more dewy vs using just a powder highlight as you can see in the photo above.

Becca in Champagne Pop

Step 5: Eyes

I use same bronzer on my eyes in the crease and use it to give a winged look.

Cat eye with smoky brown shadow. Using a dark eyeshadow and an angled eye brush, create a line from the corner of your eye for a wing. Then, curl your lashes to make the eyes pop

Finish with lip gloss or tinted lip balm for a your lips but better color. NYX butter gloss in the shade Angel Food Cake is a pink gloss that completes the look.

That’s the glowy and quick summer makeup look! If you like this post, I have a lot more on the blog. Under the Chic category click “Beauty” for more makeup reviews and tips.
