One of my favorite quotes, by Oscar Wilde, is “You can’t use up creativity. the more you use, the more you have”. I love that one in particular because I can relate to it in so many aspects of my life. Creativity is something that gets some people pumped and excited, while it terrifies others. Sometimes people think that only a certain type of personality can be creative, but that is very wrong! ANYONE can be creative! All you have to do is believe in your self enough, to put your ideas/thoughts/feelings into a creation! To get you thinking in a more creative mindset, I compiled a list of some of the do’s and don’ts of creativity! Let me know what you think!
Instead, do what feels right. You can create an art project or you could type up a short story. All that matters is you are creating. so don’t let a negative mindset stop you from your potential! Sometimes all you need to do it start and the rest will follow. Put pen to paper or brush to paint, but either way, just begin getting your ideas out.
Don’t be afraid of the outcome. When some people hear the word “creativity” they want to run the other way. Typically people think being creative means you have to be able to make works of art that are near perfection. They think their stick figure just won’t make the cut. That’s just a negative mindset because the truth is you have so much potential and even if your creative skills only create stick figures, then that’s fine. Don’t worry about your end project/result.
Instead, embrace the process. Creativity can lead to so many positive benefits, for yourself. Many times we get worked up in creating a perfect masterpiece, that we don’t take a chance to embrace the journey to it. Allow yourself to make mistakes. Don’t fret over trial and error. Get excited when your plan starts to come together and don’t panic if it begins to fall apart!
Don’t compare your work. Similar to focusing on the process of your work, more than the outcome. You should be proud of your journey and creation. Not ashamed nor feeling lesser than someone else. As long as you put forth your best effort and are happy with your accomplishment, then you are golden!
Instead, be proud. Whatever you create can be kept personal and you don’t have to show the whole world, so don’t worry about what other’s think of your work. Be happy and confident in your work and nothing else should matter.
Don’t do the same type of work every time. It can be hard sometimes to brainstorm and think of new ideas. We are human. We are used to our routines and skills. Sometimes it can be hard for us to break out of our shell. It’s ok to be nervous, but don’t let those nerves prevent you from reaching your potential.
Instead, try something new. Creativity means to change it up and come up with new ideas. So get on a different media. Try a new technique. Take up a new challenge and embrace it!
That’s all of the do’s and don’ts I have to share. Make sure to let me know if you have more ideas or can relate to one of these in particular! Have a fabulous week everyone!
