Finding Hope When Life Tests Your Strength

It is easy to feel hopeful when everything in life seems to be going exactly as planned. But when life seems to be testing your strength, hope is the last thing you have. We all have been in a ‘slump’ and know what it is like to wonder if your life will ever turn around for the better. Hope is an interesting thing. It is not a feeling, but instead your faith and beliefs.

It keeps us going. It is the one thing getting yourself out of bed when all you want is to sleep your sorrows away. Learn how to stop hitting the repeat button and instead embrace what you do have. Some events in our life are hard to chew, but learn from them and move on. You can’t start living a full life until you let go of what is weighing you down.

Whatever hardship you may be facing, find ways to learn from it. We are given challenges in our life and sometimes we let them overcome us. Don’t let one bad thing stop you from living your best life. Every event in life (good or bad) has a lesson to be learned from it. Maybe you are carrying a lot of grief- what has that taught you about your strength? What has your challenge taught you about yourself? About others?

I get that simply trusting your situation can be difficult. One of my favorite quotes is “Give it to God and go to sleep.” (not sure who it is by!). I remind myself of this frequently. When I become stressed or worried about the future, I remember that wasting my energy on something I can’t control, is pointless. The fact is, the future will come and problems will work out. There is no reason for us to fear it because there is no stopping it.

Overcome your fear of what is to come and/or your struggles. If you have ever seen the Hunger Games you know the famous saying “hope is the only thing stronger than fear”. We all have fears and yet we conquer them, because we have hope that it will all be ok. Since you have survived all of your ‘rough patches’ so far, my guess is that you have enough hope to get through this one.

Don’t give up on your goals and dreams just because you are worried about the future. Since we are now into the second week of 2018, this is the perfect excuse to give yourself a fresh start, and making your best future a reality. Be confident and strong, but most importantly be hopeful. Life will work itself out and whatever you are struggling with right now, it will be ok. Find your hope within yourself and don’t lose it. Sometimes hope is all we have, so hold onto it and don’t let it go.
