Many studies show that depending on your age, your preference on waking up early fluctuates, but if you are anything like me you dread the mornings! I was the stickler when it comes to setting my alarm an hour earlier, just so I could hit snooze five times! Unfortunately though, I have school, appointments, and other commitments that cause me to get up early. Therefore I tried some different methods to help me get out of bed in the morning- and enjoy it! Here are my top 10 tricks/tips!
Number 1- Set your alarm to a relaxed and semi-quiet noise!
You could set it to a favorite song or pick a noise in your setting that is ‘pretty’! Once you have picked a noise you like set it on a lower volume. This trick is really important because you want to come out of your sleep state calmly. The worst way to start your morning off is to jump out of bed terrified because of a loud beeping buzzer going off!
Number 2- Move your alarm clock to the other side of the room!
This took me forever to bite the bullet and do, mostly because I knew it would work, but when I finally did I noticed a huge difference in efficiency! The idea behind this method is that when your alarm goes off, you will have to get out of bed to turn it off! The hard part is not going back to bed, some ways to help this is to caption your alarm with a saying, that motivates you to start getting ready, or giving yourself a treat (such as a sticker book) every time you don’t get back in bed!
Number 3- Have something to look forward to!
For me this is my morning cup of coffee! If you find something you love and tell yourself that as soon as you wake up you can go do it/have it, you are more likely to get out of bed! Some ideas for this is working out, watching a tv show, catching up on social media, etc!
Number 4- Drink a Glass of Cold Water before anything else!
Cold water will help your digestive system and give your body that boost in the morning, plus it helps to wake your whole body up! You could do this while checking social media or when you go to get ready! Another great tip for this is to add lemon juice or slices to your water, which gives you a little more pep in your step!
Number 5-Be prepared the night before!
This is really important for your productivity in the morning. If you wake up and already have your clothes, a washcloth, and food set out then you can easily follow your morning routine and be ready on time! If you don’t do anything the night before then you will be rushing around in the mornings, like a chicken with your head cut off, trying to get everything done!
Number 6- Get Moving!
To help wake yourself up and give your body a boost of energy for the day, throw in a workout to your morning! This doesn’t have to be anything big, in fact it could be as simple as 15 push ups and 10 sit-ups, or walking your dog! The point of this is not to push your body like a full blown workout, you just simply want to get your body moving and stretched out!
Number 7- Accomplish 3 tasks!
Morning is the best time to accomplish your daily to-dos because you can not be distracted nor can you be interrupted by another task. Mornings are meant to be quiet and laid back, so write down three things you want to do and check them off as you go! They could be simple such as unloading the dishwasher or finishing an assignment. Accomplishing your 3 tasks will help you feel more productive and give you a good start to having an even more productive day!
Number 8- Listen to music!
Don’t have the volume all the way up and don’t put on disco tech.! This is meant for the background as you get ready, such as instrumental or your favorite songs on a lower volume! You could also listen to an audio book, radio station, or a podcast!
Number 9- Have a routine!
You could write this down or type it up and print it out so you can check things off as you do them, but it is very important to have a routine that you follow ever day- this means you do each task in order! Your body will be more obliged to getting out of bed if it knows what its about to do because it is just on replay!
Number 10- Have enough sleep!
In order to accomplish all the above tricks you need to be able to wake-up and if you went to bed really late and are too tired to even get out of bed your morning is screwed! Set an alarm at night for when you should be in bed or just make sure you are getting 7-8 hours of sleep a night!
