20 Cures For Rainy Day Blues

Maya Angelou once said “I’ve learned a lot about a person by the way (s)he handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights”! I love the mention of rainy days, because when you think about it, all around us on rainy days, people are putting up umbrellas, staying inside, looking down at their feet and running as fast as they can to avoid it! While rain is associated as a negative and can put people in a grumpy mood, here is 20 ways to enjoy the rain!

1. Dance in the rain!

Grab a friend and go outside! Let the rain wash away all of your stress and just smile! Sometimes we get so caught up in the negative connotation of rain that we forget that it is up to us if we enjoy it or not!

2. Watch a Scary Movie!

Ok, it doesn’t have to be scary but a loud storm in the background would have you on the edge of your seat!

3. Read a book

Curl up under your favorite blanket by a window! Get lost in the sound of the rain, with a good book.

4. Draw the rain

If you enjoy drawing, sketching, painting then use the rain as your inspiration or image! Draw what you see, sketching what ideas the storm sparks, paint the colors of the storm.

5. Bake a Decadent Dessert

On cold days a warm meal or dessert is very comforting.

6. Take a Warm bath!

Turn off all the lights and light some candles! Don’t forget to put on some relaxing music!

7. Build a Fort!

Grab all the pillows and blankets you have and build a makeshift fort!

8. Binge Watch a New Show!

A few of my recent favorites is Quantico, New Girl, One Tree Hill, and NCIS! (All on Netflix)

10. Spend the entire day at a library!

Get some work done or research an interesting topic.

11. Spend The Entire Day at a Coffee Shop

Similar to the library, just grab a nook in a quaint coffee shop! Read, journal, research!

12. Go through Pinterest, or YouTube for hours!

Snuggle up and grab your phone, computer, iPad! Run through all your social media and catch up on everything going on!

13. Sleep!

This is your perfect opportunity to catch up on your Zzz’s! Snuggle under the covers all day and just sleep!

14. Clean

Not sure what it is about rainy days, but I get really productive! If your this way too then go through your house and clean every nook and cranny!

15. Make a craft or DIY project

Have a space in your house that your not sure what to do with? This is your chance to make something! Check out my Pinterest for some ideas!

16. Have a detox day

Get healthy! Do multiple workouts, eat healthy meals or snacks, challenge your self to do so many squats, only drink water, only allow your self so many minutes infront of electronics, etc!

17. Do a Random Act of Kindness

Make brownies for your neighbors, write letters to strangers and put in books at the library. Do something special for someone and make their day!

18. Road Trip!

This one requires a little planning! If you see the forecast for the next few weeks is rainy, stormy, and cold, get yourself a reservation, get in the car, and go!

19. Do a time consuming activity

Do a puzzle, redecorate your room, go on a picture scavenger hunt.

20. Hang out with a friend!

Get together with a friend and do any of the above options with them!
